Single pitch award

Who is it suitable for?

The Single Pitch Award (SPA) is an award for people who want to supervise groups on short, single pitch rock climbs and climbing walls in the UK. We offer both the 2 day training course and 2 day assessment course. Minimum age 18 years old.

What does the course consist of?

Our experienced providers will teach you about choice of venue, rope management, correct use of equipment, group management, emergency procedures, crag etiquette, access and conservation. Between training and assessment you must gain extensive supervisory and personal climbing experience. Your trainer will advise you about the amount and nature of the personal climbing and supervising experience you should gain before Assessment.

What do you need?

Equipment can be borrowed from the Provider

Before Registration

Gain a minimum of 12 months personal climbing experience
Lead at least 15 graded routes outdoors on leader placed protection, please keep a record of your climbing experiences.
How to register

Join a mountaineering council such as the British Mountaineering council, BMC at www.thebmc.co.uk
Purchase the SPA registration, logbook and handbook from Mountain Leader Training England, MLTE at www.mlte.org price £35.
You are now ready to book your Training Course.

Between Training and Assessment spend 6 months gaining further climbing and supervising experience.
Obtain 16 hours of First Aid

When can I do it?

Training course dates:

1 day will be held at The Leeds Wall and another at an alternative facility.

25th & 26th September 2010
